Regular customer to run London Marathon 2018 for Emmaus
Guy Bennet, 48, from Beccles is running this year’s London Marathon for national homelessness charity Emmaus, after being inspired by the support formerly homeless people receive from Emmaus Norfolk and Waveney.
The Ringsfield local is running the 26.2 mile race, which takes place in London on 22 April 2018, after seeing first-hand how providing a home for as long as someone needs and work in a social enterprise can help to transform the lives of people who have experienced the isolation and social exclusion of homelessness.
“I chose Emmaus after seeing the help and guidance that the support workers provide to some of the most vulnerable people in our society.”
“Throughout the years, I have suffered from mental health issues, and I recognise that homelessness is something that can happen to anyone, especially when ill.”
Guy will be taking on the challenge alongside friend and Emmaus Norfolk and Waveney Support Worker Jemma Pursell and is hoping to reach his fundraising target of £1,500.
“All donations would be gratefully received and would directly benefit members of our society. I personally have seen the excellent work provided by Emmaus at my local branch, Emmaus Norfolk and Waveney, and the support that they provide makes a real difference to the lives of formerly homeless people.”
Emmaus is different to other homelessness charities as it provides a long term solution for people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion, offering an alternative route out of homelessness and a fantastic way of life within a supportive environment.
“I would like to thank Guy for continuing to support us over the years, and for taking on a gruelling, but rewarding, challenge on behalf of Emmaus. I would like to wish him and Jemma luck for the big day.”
