Local Bungay business, The Castle Inn, has donated the last of its perishable food to Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney following on online appeal requesting for donations of food.

The social media appeal, which asked for surplus food to be donated to Emmaus, has been met with a large amount of support. Owner of The Castle Inn, Tanya, together with her son, gathered up and donated the last of their perishable stock including potatoes, onions, carrots, parsnips, as well as cupboard items and donated them to Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney.

The Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney site in is currently closed to the public following government advice, however, the support it provides to the people living in the Ditchingham community continues.

Tanya, at The Castle Inn, said:

“My family and I come to visit Emmaus in Ditchingham a lot – we’ve bought furniture for our home and business and recently worked with a resident at Emmaus who helps in the charity’s workshop on a kitchen project. Every time we visit, we spend time talking with the residents and hearing all of their stories. We know that it is a difficult time for many people, and charities and those who depend on them are being affected too. Times are uncertain for us as a business but by doing something positive it has helped us feel a little more in control and remind ourselves that it doesn’t take much to be kind, but hopefully means a lot.”

Since 2007, Tanya and Mark has owned and run The Castle Inn. The Inn itself dates back to at least 1566 and they are proud to be playing a small part in its history whilst moving the tradition of inn keeping forward.

Eamon, who is a trained chef, has been receiving support from Emmaus after a combination of events led to him to living on the streets for two years. Eamon now cooks for the community and will be using the kind donation from The Castle Inn to cook nutritious meals for his fellow companions.
