Throughout 2020 we have been collecting and sorting a truck full of items to send to Emmaus Satu Mare and earlier this month a truck left our community in Ditchingham to make the 1500 mile journey across Europe to our colleagues in Romania.

Like us, Emmaus Satu Mare is a member of Emmaus International and opened in 2011, coincidentally the same year that we opened our community in Ditchingham. Satu Mare offers a home and security to young disadvantage people who have been in care. Many have disabilities and most have no family. Typically, companions living at the Satu Mare community are under 25 years-old and encouraged to stay in education. As residents of the community, they have access to health care and support in finding permanent housing as well as the opportunity to learn new skills, access to education and receive the support they need.

The truck full of donations that we have sent over to Satu Mare will go to making their home more comfortable and they will sell many of the items in their own shop which, like the work we do, helps to improve lives.

For many Emmaus companions here in the UK, being part of such solidarity acts gives huge pleasure and pride and we are delighted to be able to help our fellow companions in Romania, especially as we all face such challenging times.
