Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney are working to end homelessness one person at a time. We provide a home for up to 50 people who have experienced homelessness in our beautiful rural site in Ditchingham, South Norfolk.

We call our residents ‘companions’ and we support them to get back on their feet, recover from trauma and rebuild a positive future.

All companions are given their own furnished bedroom with normal living expenses, toiletries and basic clothing covered. Delicious home-cooked meals are provided in a communal dining room, where companions, staff and volunteers all eat together.

To be offered a place in our community you need to be homeless (not have a home of your own) or be insecurely housed (unable to continue living where you currently live). You’ll also be happy living in a communal setting and working in our community. This means making a positive contribution, working together and respecting the rules.

We support both men and women in shared and gender-specific accommodations. Learn more about our Women’s Project and House here.

To be accepted at Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney, a person has to sign off all benefits with the exception of Housing Benefit. Emmaus claims this to help to support community costs and provide the Emmaus support package.

Living & Working at Emmaus

Living & Working at Emmaus

We provide long-term, bespoke and tailored support for companions. We work with each individual to identify what’s holding them back and how they can start building towards a positive future. When you are ready to move on, our support team will help you do this in a positive and successful way.

Alongside a home, Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney provides meaningful work opportunities and relevant training opportunities to those living here with us. We help you to gain new skills, expand existing skills and discover new interests through our social enterprises.

We are a non-religious organisation, and we are open to people of all faiths and none. We do, however, live in the former All Hallows Convent which is a beautiful rural environment.
