Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney gave a warm welcome to the new Bishop of Norwich during a recent visit to the charity’s site in Ditchingham.

On Wednesday 2 October, staff and companions at Emmaus greeted the new Bishop of Norwich, the Rt Rev Graham Usher, before giving him a tour of its site on the former grounds of the All Hallows Community. To round the day up, Bishop Graham enjoyed blackberry crumble and custard and shared stories with people being supported by Emmaus.

Bishop Graham, 49, is the youngest diocesan bishop in the Church of England and he has now become the 72nd Bishop of Norwich, which covers Norfolk and Waveney.

Speaking on his visit, Bishop Graham, said:

“Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney at Ditchingham is a place of support and healing where Jesus’ hope is lived out in a very rooted and practical way so that all who come there, whether companions, staff or visitors can find a pathway to discover life in all its fullness. I’m proud that such a place of hope and care exists in the Diocese of Norwich. Its valuable work with some of the most vulnerable people in our society will remain much in my prayers, and I commend its ministry for your prayers and your giving.”

In addition to the visit, Chief Executive Cecile Roberts attended the enthronement of Bishop Graham, held on November 9 at Norwich Cathedral. Cecile was also accompanied by a companion from Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney.

Chief Executive, Cecile Roberts, said:

“It meant so much to our community and our companions that Bishop Graham visited, enjoyed a crumble made by one of our companions, and shared stories with the people we support. We were also very touched that the Bishop invited us to his enthronement and honoured to attend on the day.”
