This Winter learn how to upcycle furniture in our stunning site, the All Hallows Convent, whilst supporting formerly homeless people to have a fresh start in life.

We’ll cover the basics of project preparation, paint, brush and tool selection, and colour choice, as well as pitfalls to avoid, as you tackle your own project. Our friendly informal setting will give lots of opportunity to ask questions along the way. Transform an unloved item of furniture into a beautiful statement piece! You can buy tickets to the workshops taking place on Wednesday 16th November & Wednesday 7th December via our eventbrite page here or by ringing our shop on 01986 895444

Our furniture upcyling workshops will be run by Michele of Mouse Design in Bungay, Michele creates beautiful, personal furniture from pre-loved items. Get to know Michele and her work below:

When did you first get into upcycling furniture?

I have been ‘upcycling’ furniture since before the term existed! From rejuvenating furniture for family and friends, to opening shops in Warwickshire offering bespoke furniture and interior advise in the 1980’s, to my current shop, Mouse Design, in Bungay.

What is your favourite thing about upcycling?

Being able to transform a tired or neglected piece of furniture is just so rewarding and you can create an original piece to reflect your taste and lifestyle.

Often vintage pieces are better quality and much more cost effective than buying new – plus it makes so much sense environmentally.

What inspires your creative process?

Sometimes I sit and look at a piece for ages before I decide, but usually I have an instant feel for what to do with a piece. I love working with colour and techniques to add interest, texture and subtle ‘age’ to pieces.

What is your number one upcycling tip?

Just don’t be afraid – ultimately, it’s paint……if something doesn’t turn out how you want, it is very easy to change it. The workshops aim to give people the confidence to tackle future projects…..students tend to get totally hooked!

What motivated you to run these workshops with Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney?

I think Emmaus is a fabulous organisation and we are lucky to have it. Hopefully these workshops will encourage more people to become familiar with the location and find some great pieces to upcycle!
