We’re thrilled to be hosting an exciting fundraising evening featuring Major of Ipswich John Cook and Terry Waite (CBE)

On Wednesday 19th October Terry Waite will share his experiences with audiences at The Royal Oak from 6.30pm – 9.00pm. Guests will also have an opportunity to ask Terry about his life, in a Q&A style section.

Terry Waite has been Emmaus UK’s president since 1991, shortly after his release from captivity. Terry spent 1763 days in captivity in Lebanon, the first four years of which were spent in solitary confinement. Terry has been incredibly supportive of Emmaus Suffolk in the past, with him attending the opening of The Royal Oak back in December 2021.

The ticket price includes a delicious dinner prepared by our Chef, Colton which will be served before the conversation kicks off. The Royal Oak is a sober venue and we have a great selection of non-alcoholic drinks available and guests can also bring their own alcohol to the event.

This event is part of a series of events with the Major of Ipswich as John Cook’s chosen charity this year.

Ahead of the event, Major of Ipswich Councillor John Cook says “I’m incredibly excited to be hosting a fundraiser at the Royal Oak with Terry Waite as speaker. Terry is a long-time supporter of Emmaus Suffolk and seemed to be forever on our television screens during the 1980s as Special Envoy for the Archbishop of Canterbury and hostage negotiator. I know that this will be an evening to remember.”

The event will also feature a payable charity raffle, with all proceeds going to Emmaus Suffolk.
