We’re thrilled to announce that our charity has been honoured with the Sustainability Award at the 2023 Potteries Centre Annual Awards.
Our charity shop on the lower-ground floor of the Potteries Centre (opposite New Look) specialises in quality second-hand clothing, shoes, books, music, film, bric-a-brac and various items of furniture for the home.
Since opening our shop in May 2022, our team has successfully saved approximately 300 tonnes of waste.
The prestigious Sustainability Award recognises Emmaus North Staffs’ efforts in encouraging businesses based at the Potteries Centre to donate unwanted goods and adopt recycling practices. We’ve partnered with the Potteries Centre on this exciting recycling initiative, designed to reduce waste destined for landfill by repurposing unwanted shop fittings and fixtures across the centre.
In addition to promoting waste reduction among Potteries Centre tenants, our Sustainability Award also recognises our commitment to the environment through our charity’s acceptance of quality used items, for resale in our charity shops, preventing them from ending up in local landfills.
Amy Whittaker, Centre Manager at The Potteries Centre, said, “We are thrilled to have hosted such a successful awards night in honour of all the amazing retailers we have at The Potteries Centre. Specifically, we are pleased to have awarded Emmaus North Staffs the Sustainability Award following all the great work they do in tackling furniture poverty, all while reducing waste and helping to save the planet. We want to congratulate Emmaus North Staffs and can’t wait to see what this next year brings.”
Our commitment to promoting reuse goes further: we also host free weekly recycling woodwork classes. These provide valuable life and employment skills to participants while promoting the reuse of materials.
Our Potteries Centre shop is open to the public six days a week: Monday to Friday: 9am – 5pm and Saturday: 10am – 4pm.
