We help local people overcome furniture poverty.
We run a unique “referrals” scheme: we partner with housing associations and help people who are referred to us. These people are setting up their home but can’t afford to pay for essential furniture and appliances. The best part is, there is no cost to the tenants except for a small delivery fee. We receive over 800 referrals each year and give away thousands of furniture items to local individuals and families.
We are also raising funds to create an Emmaus community in Stoke-on-Trent for people who facing homelessness. This community will offer a home, meaningful work experience, daily support and funded training to help people rebuild their lives. It will be the first community of its kind in our county.
To support our charity shops, we provide a free furniture collection service and do around 150 collections and deliveries every week. We mainly focus on Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Staffordshire Moorlands. Sometimes we drive as far as South Cheshire or the northern half of Stafford Borough.
Every year, we collect around 300 tonnes of quality secondhand furniture, household items and electrical appliances. Without our efforts, many of these items would have ended up in landfill. Instead, they are either sold in our charity shops or given away as part of our Referrals scheme.
We are committed to increasing our recycling rates to reduce our impact on landfills.
