Last week we held a Solidarity Sale to Support the DECs Earthquake Appeal for Turkey and Syria in our city centre shops, Emmaus Home and Emmaus Works.

We invited our customers to shop with us on Saturday with the aim to donate the total proceeds from all sales made to support survivors of the horrific Earthquakes.

One of the most important parts of Emmaus’ ethos is solidarity, helping those who are less fortunate than ourselves. Emmaus founder, Abbé Pierre, encouraged everyone to ‘serve first those most in need’ and we continue to try and live by this, ensuring that our community supports people worse off than us. Our Companions enjoy taking part in Solidarity activities, helping them to feel connected to the community, increasing their self-esteem and allowing them to give something back.

Ahead of the sale, Darren Scott, our Business Manager shared: “We’ve been shocked by the disastrous earthquakes, and we want to show support for people suffering in Turkey and Syria. We welcome everyone into our shops on Saturday and we hope we can make a really generous donation to the DEC.”

We were delighted by the amount of support we received on the day and we raised £788.00 and rounded this up to make an amazing £800 donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee.

A huge thank you to everyone who came down and shopped with us, your support will make a real difference to those struggling with the fallout of the disastrous earthquakes.

By subscribing you will receive regular updates and news from Emmaus Colchester. We will never sell or distribute your information to a third party.
