Emmaus Colchester was set up in 1999 by a team of trustees and volunteers who wanted to create an Emmaus community in the town, our community building on Magdalen Street opened in 2008.
Colchester is one of 30 communities spread across the UK, providing a home and support for more than 800 people who are known as companions. The movement continues to grow, with a further five groups working to establish new communities.
With your support we are able to make a real difference to people’s lives. You only have to read the stories of some of the people we have supported to see what a difference Emmaus can make.
After many years of fundraising our Community opened in 1999. The group of volunteers and Trustees worked to create a purpose-built community building to house 20 companions and 1 member of staff.
We support around 37 people per year and companions can stay in our accommodation for as long as they need.
