This August, Emmaus Colchester are kicking off our 15th Anniversary celebrations! It has been 15 years since the doors of our community building first opened in 2008. Emmaus Colchester was set up in 1999 by a team of volunteers who wanted to make a difference and support people experiencing homelessness in Essex.
Our purpose build community house on Magdalen Street has offered a home for as long as needed for many companions over the years as they regain their self-esteem and rebuild confidence. 15 years after the first companion moved in we’re still supporting people with a home and meaningful work in our social enterprises. At Emmaus we provide companions with more than just a bed for the night, but a reason to get out of it in the morning.
We’re thrilled to be celebrating our 15th Anniversary and to be reflecting on the impact our community has made on so many people’s lives. We are also using this anniversary to look forward; we want to continue to evolve and grow so we can best support people in Essex.
Our fundraiser Fifteen for the Future aims to raise £15,000 which will allow us to expand the services we offer companions, this could include purchasing a mini van to enable companions to more easily go on wellbeing day trips and volunteer in the local community or creating specialised digital facilities for companions to use to gain new skills.
We are appealing to local people to help us reach our target by August 2024, either through individual donations or fundraising activities at schools, workplaces, churches or groups.
