Emmaus is a homelessness charity with a difference, we provide a home and support for however long it’s needed. There is no limit on how long people can stay with us which means companions have time to take stock of their lives, rebuild their self-esteem and re-connect with loved ones.
All our residents, known as companions, work in our social enterprises including two second-hand shops in the city centre and our house clearance business. The revenue from our businesses supports our companions and provides a home, meals, well-being support and a weekly allowance for them.
At Emmaus Colchester we provide opportunities for people who are homeless and socially disadvantaged. If you or someone you know is currently homeless and looking for a fresh start then help is available at Emmaus Colchester.
We support people and provide a home for as long as its needed. Our residents, known as companions work in our social enterprises 40 hours a week to gain new skills and increase their confidence and self-esteem.
Work is an integral part of community life and the support Emmaus offers to companions. The social enterprise side of the community is where companions gain new skills, experiences and begin to re-build their self confidence.
Our shops are full of amazing second-hand furniture, homeware, books and fashion and each item we sell is diverted out of landfill and into a new home! We collect donations of unwanted items and re-sell them to support our charity but also to help the environment!
We have a wonderful team of companions and volunteers who skillfully transform furniture that needs a bit more love at our on site workshop, the shabby shack! Find upcycled furniture at our Emmaus Home and Emmaus Works store.
