Emmaus Suffolk is heading towards a £1m turnover charity supporting people experiencing social isolation, long-term isolation or at risk of homelessness.  Emmaus Suffolk has ambitions to extend the range of its enterprises beyond the reselling of donated goods traditional for Emmaus.  More enterprises?  More jobs that give people a sense of worth.  More skills to learn for their future beyond Emmaus. 

We’ve just leased the Royal Oak pub as a bigger HQ and so we can house half a dozen and launch a café.  With our newly hired chef bringing menus from around the world, we plan to become a hub for the many cultures in Ipswich.  More than 70 languages are spoken here!

Want to know what you will be responsible for?  Of course you do, you’re an accountant! 

  •  Ensuring a tight financial control framework and supporting systems   
  • Ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements (VAT, PAYE, Gift Aid etc) 
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts including variance analysis 
  • Detailed experience of using Xero or new generation accounting software 
  • Preparation of information for payroll for submission to external bureau 
  • Reviewing and setting up payments, internally* and externally 
  • Cash flow monitoring and forecasting for the charity and funded projects 
  • Recording and reporting on restricted reserves  
  • Accounts analysis to support Chief Executive and Area Retail Manager 
  • Financial reporting for Emmaus UK, funders and other external bodies 
  • Preparation of annual accounts up to trial balance for external  accountant’s review 
  • Work with the Finance Administrator preparing allowances (weekly, holiday,  wellbeing, resettlement) loans, repayments and housing benefit records
