CLOSING DATE: Ongoing LOCATION: Emmaus Suffolk (Ipswich & remote) SALARY: £30,000 Pro rata TYPE: Part-time

Want a fulfilling job whilst juggling the school run or a top-up to your retirement fund?  Want to support an expanding charity doing great things for people across Suffolk? Good at bringing order to chaos?  (we’re not that bad). A great addition to your Linkedin entry!

Emmaus Suffolk is heading towards a £1m turnover charity supporting people experiencing social isolation, long-term isolation or at risk of homelessness.  Emmaus Suffolk has ambitions to extend the range of its enterprises beyond the reselling of donated goods traditional for Emmaus.  More enterprises?  More jobs that give people a sense of worth.  More skills to learn for their future beyond Emmaus.

We’ve just leased the Royal Oak pub as a bigger HQ and so we can house half a dozen and launch a café.  With our newly hired chef bringing menus from around the world, we plan to become a hub for the many cultures in Ipswich.  More than 70 languages are spoken here!

So you can see why we need your help.

Check out these questions and your responses:

Meet the deadline or perfect pack?  When is enough, enough?  Something always crops up to steal the time to make it perfect.  How do you achieve the balance?  Where did you learn to do this?  When has it gone wrong?  Tell us stories.

Can you make systems your servant?  Do you enjoy using systems and software to make the lives of you and others easier?  Whether a quicker process or better information?  Tell us stories of how you’ve done it.

Commercial success versus social ends?  You’re faced with endless need.  You can’t do it all.  How have you coped?

Understand the different dynamics of public, private and voluntary sectors?  What changes did you have to make or can you foresee?

Can you advise and guide the Board’s trustees with diplomacy?  Where did you learn to say ‘no’ nicely?

Have you got an eye for detail as well as a grasp of the big picture?

We want you to email [email protected] with stories of how you’ve done and know these things. Don’t contact the charity.  Help us by emailing Brian and we’ll tell you within a week is you are a contender.

Want to know what you will be responsible for?  Of course you do, you’re an accountant!
