Emmaus North East has announced plans to establish a women-only accommodation facility tailored to aid survivors of domestic abuse. Named the “Revive and Thrive” project, the initiative aims to provide a safe haven for women who have endured domestic violence and have been made homeless, offering a supportive environment where they can rebuild their lives.

The charity’s vision encompasses a nurturing space where survivors can find solace and empowerment. The accommodation will feature four bedrooms, designed to prioritise comfort and security. Additionally, a dedicated room will be allocated for counsellors and therapists to provide essential support and guidance to the residents.

This project is made possible through a generous grant from The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation, who’s funding priorities include support for people who have experienced homelessness to get back on their journey towards independent living. The financial backing provided by the trust is instrumental in creating a safe space where women can heal and thrive.

Emmaus North East aims to complete the renovations and security work for the building in two months. Currently, efforts are underway to ensure that the property meets the highest standards of safety and security, essential elements in providing a sanctuary for survivors.

In a bid to safeguard the privacy and security of the women seeking refuge, Emmaus North East has chosen not to disclose the precise location of the accommodation. This precautionary measure underscores the charity’s unwavering commitment to prioritising the safety and well-being of the residents above all else.

Speaking about the initiative, Ruth Parker, Chief Executive at Emmaus North East, expressed gratitude to the Albert Gubay Trust for their pivotal contribution to the Revive and Thrive project. She emphasized the significance of providing tailored support to survivors of domestic abuse, acknowledging the harrowing journey they undertake in rebuilding their lives.

“We are immensely grateful to the Albert Gubay Trust for their generous grant, which has enabled us to embark on this vital project,” Ruth stated. “Revive and Thrive represents a beacon of hope for survivors of domestic abuse who have found themselves homeless, offering them a haven where they can find solace, support, and a path towards healing.”

The Revive and Thrive project embodies the charity’s unwavering dedication to solidarity and creating spaces where every individual is afforded the opportunity to live a life free from violence and fear.
