Emmaus Hertfordshire offers an affordable house clearance service with a difference. When you book with us, you give our companions the opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, and all proceeds go directly back into our community, supporting people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion. We aim to reuse or recycle as many items as possible, reducing the amount that ends up in local landfill.
Depending on the condition of your items, we will either sell them in our shops, restore, refurbish or upcycle them in our workshop, recycle them, or as a last resort, dispose of them responsibly. Electrical items are fully tested, for function and safety by one of our qualified companions, and either resold, or stripped back and recycled. Solidarity, and looking after those in the greatest need are at the heart of what we do, so some items are also passed on to others – providing essential furniture, household goods and clothing to those who need it most.
We know that often, the reasons for needing a house clearance can be difficult and emotional, so our team will take care of everything for you, handling the process sensitively and treating items with care and respect. Not only that, but by choosing Emmaus Hertfordshire for a clearance, the things that hold value to you, hold value to us too… They provide a home, meaningful work and a sense of belonging and self-worth for our companions, creating a lasting legacy.
We offer a full and partial house clearance service, covering the county of Hertfordshire and North London, and prices start at £375.

Barbara from Chorleywood, July 2023I just wanted to thank you for doing such a good job on the house clearance. From the outset your communication has been excellent.
It was an emotional time for me but the professionalism and friendliness shown by yourself and the team made the whole operation run smoothly.
You all worked tirelessly and nothing was too much effort.
I was drawn to using Emmaus as I liked the charity’s aims and philosophy in helping the homeless. It was really good to see that in practice and meet some of the people who are part of that community and working within it.
Ann from Watford, June 2023I just wanted to say how impressed we were with your team when they cleared our property. It had been our family home since 1972, and the team were very compassionate.
This week, my sister walked past your shop window and noticed our late parents sideboard had been upcycled and sold. What a transformation! It looked great.
Jackie from Welwyn, May 2023I just wanted to say a huge Thank You to the team for a professional house clearance job at the above address. Nothing was too much trouble, even when they carried a heavy item to my car, only for me to change my mind and not want it. Great attitude and great work ethic – a credit to Emmaus!
Michelle from Harpenden, Jan 2020Emmaus were very professional from start to finish; we could not believe how efficiently they worked for the price they charged. They cleared a large 5/6 bedroom house in less than 2 days. We are pleased that most of the furniture and items will be recycled and the majority of the items will go on to be sold by Emmaus and it’s also nice to know that some items of furniture will help to retrain those in need with valuable skills they can take and use anywhere.
Morph Wisbech, November 2021Absolutely brilliant service, very friendly, helpful and communication was great. They did a house clearance and helped make the hassle of moving house so much easier. Thanks so much!
Frank from Ware Feb 2020Very competitively priced compared to other companies and the money goes to charity, win win!
