We’re delighted with our donation of a much-needed van by the UK’s largest gas distribution network, Cadent.

Delivered to our community this week, the Transit van will be used for house collections and to transfer pre-loved items to and from our four Hertfordshire shops and community workshop in Crosby Close, St Albans.

Duncan Lewis, our Chief Executive Office, said: “The Transit van, which has been so generously donated by Cadent, will make a huge difference to the social enterprise we run to fund our charitable work.

“Vehicle purchase and maintenance costs are a big expense for us, so to have a vehicle that is as versatile as a Transit donated free of charge and delivered to the door is amazing.

“We will put it to really good use, collecting and delivering the recycled and upcycled furniture we sell as well as helping with our house clearance operation. We are incredibly grateful to everyone at Cadent who has made this possible.”

Frederick Bowlby, Cadent’s Sustainability and Social Purpose Advisor, said: “We are delighted our North London team have been able to support Emmaus Hertfordshire by donating this much-needed van for their charitable work.

“Our partnership with Emmaus goes well beyond just fundraising, we are keen to help Emmaus become more sustainable so they can continue to provide easier warmth for those who need it most for years to come.

“Donating this newer vehicle will help to keep their community on the road to provide support for Emmaus companions in a more sustainable way.”

This donation comes as part of an ongoing partnership between Cadent and Emmaus UK which Emmaus Hertfordshire has benefited from in a number of ways over the past year, from team volunteering days to various community improvements.

The van will assist our teams in collecting donated items, including those from its affordable house clearance service. Pre-loved items are then sold in our shops, with proceeds used to help the formerly homeless people we support.
