More people than ever before are now at risk of homelessness due to the current cost of living crisis, here in the UK and across the Globe. We currently have spaces available in our community home in Bridgend for people who are at risk of becoming homeless, are currently experiencing homeless, or temporarily living in a hotel or hostel and are looking for a safe place they can call home. We offer funded training, wellbeing and learning opportunities for personal and professional development and tailored day-to-day support on their journey to rebuild their lives.

When a person joins Emmaus, they are provided with their own en-suite bedroom, access to shared social spaces and an allowance. Meals and normal living expenses are covered by us. This is not a handout, but a hand up, and in exchange all that is required is that people living at Emmaus work up to 40 hours per week to help run the charity’s reuse stores in Bridgend and Porthcawl, as well as the charity’s Porthcawl tourist attraction, Lucie the Land Train. This enables real work experience and the development of new skills.

Andrew has lived in three Emmaus communities after spending a few weeks sleeping rough in London. He joined our community here in Bridgend in October 2022 to be closer to family: “I’d recommend Emmaus to anyone who is experiencing homelessness. It is more than a home; it gives you a sense of purpose.  What I have found living at three communities is that there is always someone there to help you. It’s a good way to help you to get back on your feet.”
