Prisoners at HMP Parc in Bridgend have chosen to support Emmaus South Wales recently through the proceeds of a recent bicycle raffle and G4S match it scheme.

Phil Forder, Community Engagement Officer at HMP Parc said, “When we raffled two refurbished bikes at HMP Parc before Christmas, the prisoners raised over £200 this was doubled by G4S match it. The prisoners decided to split the money between Emmaus South Wales and Ty Hafan.”

G4S also donated fifteen refurbished bicycles to the Emmaus South Wales Community thanks to a new prison scheme. The scheme utilises abandoned, damaged or stolen bikes donated by South Wales Police and the prisoners are taught Bicycle Maintenance to restore the bikes to pristine condition. The bikes are then re-donated back to community projects like Emmaus.

An Emmaus South Wales spokesperson said, “Emmaus South Wales would like to thank G4S and the prisoners who donated towards this fundraising effort for supporting our cause. It’s brilliant to see such great initiatives and training opportunities in place, which ultimately assists with rehabilitation back into the community.”

The brilliant sum of £251.50 donated by the prison will assist Emmaus South Wales’ work in supporting people facing homelessness in the Bridgend and South Wales area.
