This Volunteers’ Week 2023, we’re appealing for volunteers to help in our Bridgend community home as Community Assistants.

Emmaus South Wales offers more than a roof over your head, it offers a home – with home cooked food, good company and a real community feeling. We’re looking for people who want to use their time, skills, and passion to make a real difference to the lives of people who have been homeless by volunteering in Nant Lais, our shared house with individual rooms where the people supported by our charity live.

The Community Assistant role involves cooking, cleaning, gardening, general housekeeping and interaction with the people supported by the charity. Emmaus can accommodate as many days or hours people have spare, we only ask our volunteers to be consistent and reliable.

Amanda is currently retired and has been volunteering at Emmaus South Wales for a few years, cooking for the charity’s residents at the community home every Thursday:

“Volunteering at Emmaus is a very rewarding experience and a wonderful opportunity for anyone that is lonely or has something to give in their spare time. By coming to Nant Lais every Thursday and cooking for the residents, I am involved in the community, I make friends, and I use my time and skills to truly help people who have experienced homelessness. It is a lovely community to work with, and there’s a lot of flexibility – you can utilise your skills in many different ways and give as much or as little time as you like.”

If you have time on your hands and enjoy cooking and caring for a home, you can help create one for people who have experienced homelessness by volunteering with us.
