Ian has fired up his passion for cooking by completing a BBQ Masterclass course at the Michelin star Northcote Restaurant.

Companion Ian, our resident community cook, completed the BBQ course as part of his ongoing personal development. Ian joined other course participants for a full day of hands-on learning at the luxury Northcote Hotel and Restaurant in the Ribble Valley.

Ian has already put his cooking skills to good use by preparing meals for fellow companions. Emmaus Salford supports formerly homeless people by providing them with a stable home, meaningful work, training and individual support.

Commenting on the day, Ian said: “The barbecue course at Northcote Manor was fantastic. The course was very well explained by the lads who trained us. They showed me about different temperature zones within the BBQ itself and I picked up loads of helpful tips. I would rate the day five stars.”

The Northcote’s intimate cookery school is run by Head Tutor Rick Ogden and Tutor Ben Hinchliffe under the guidance of Lisa Goodwin-Allen, Northcote’s Executive Chef. The cookery school provides courses to help educate, inspire and take cooking skills to the next level.

New skills and experiences

Equipping people with new skills and experiences is a bit part of how we support people at Emmaus and we’re delighted that Ian is progressing with his passion for cooking.”

The BBQ Masterclass course was funded by the Emmaus UK Companion Training Fund. The fund enables people supported by Emmaus to access money towards training courses, sporting activities, hobbies, and travel to visit Emmaus communities overseas.
