At Emmaus Salford, staff members, Jane and Victoria recently embarked on an enriching residential trip to learn about Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).

This innovative practice, often likened to acupuncture but without the use of needles, has shown great promise in addressing emotional issues such as PTSD, depression, and anxiety. Over a three-day residential training at a serene retreat in Darwen, Lancashire, Jane and Victoria delved into the world of EFT under the guidance of the experienced instructor, Adel Houten.

EFT, also known as tapping, involves gently tapping on specific energy meridians located just below the skin’s surface. The technique is designed to release emotional blockages, promoting healing and fostering a sense of emotional freedom. Our staff members were intrigued by the potential this technique holds in helping the companions we support at Emmaus Salford, who have faced various challenges and experienced homelessness.

Throughout the training, our staff members learned how to approach EFT sessions effectively. They discovered the importance of asking the right questions to gather as much information as possible from the individuals they work with, enabling a comprehensive exploration of the root causes of emotional distress. By understanding the underlying issues, our staff members aim to empower the companions at Emmaus Salford to overcome emotional barriers and foster personal growth.

Beyond the educational aspect, the retreat offered a chance to connect with like-minded individuals. The presence of other attendees, who were equally enthusiastic about EFT and its potential, provided a supportive and nurturing environment for learning and sharing experiences.

One of the key takeaways from the training was the realisation that emotional healing can follow a holistic approach. Jane said: “The key thing I took away from the training was how we can use alternative therapies to improve mainstream treatments to treat mental health, instead of medication. The benefits of EFT are huge, it’s a therapy that leaves you feeling lighter, more centered, and generally just ‘better’.”

Our staff members discovered the transformative power of EFT in conjunction with their ongoing work at Emmaus Salford. By integrating this innovative technique into their support services, they aim to create a more comprehensive and empathetic environment for the companions, enabling them to overcome emotional obstacles and regain control of their lives.

We look forward to witnessing the positive impact of EFT as our staff members integrate this powerful technique into their compassionate work with the companions at Emmaus Salford. Together, we move forward with renewed enthusiasm, equipped with the knowledge and skills to empower individuals on their journey to emotional freedom and self-discovery.
