Emmaus Mossley is celebrating after raising more than £9,000 at the Emmaus Vintage Christmas Market charity sale.

Crowds turned out in force on Saturday 16 November to support the charity and bag some festive bargains. The Vintage Christmas Market event launched Emmaus Mossley’s Christmas displays and included a range of festive stalls for all tastes and budgets.

Alex, one of the people who lives and works at Emmaus Mossley, said: “It was a manic day but extremely successful. Thankfully Christmas only comes around once a year so it’ll be a bit before we do it all again! Thank you to all of our customers and volunteers for making it a great day.”

The Emmaus Vintage Christmas Market event raised a record amount of £9,327, far eclipsing the totals raised at previous events at Emmaus Mossley. The charity supports 26 formerly homeless people (known as companions) by providing them with a home and work in a community setting.

Alison Hill, Director of Emmaus Mossley, said: “It was a very busy but successful event for Emmaus Mossley and I would like to thank all those who joined us. The funds raised on the day will go towards our ambitious future plans which include improving facilities for our companions and carrying out essential, long overdue repairs and building works.”

“I would like to thank and congratulate all of our companions, volunteers and staff who worked tirelessly on the day and in the run up to this event. It was a big team effort which makes us all the more proud and grateful when our extended community comes out to give their support.”

The Emmaus Mossley Secondhand Superstore was stocked full of vintage and retro decorations, secret Santa gifts, presents for under a fiver and lots of reusable Christmas trees. In addition to the Christmas-themed stalls, there was seasonal food in Lucie’s Café, Pattisons Family Butchers BBQ and festive mocktails provided by The Ale Trailer.

Due to the success of the event, Emmaus is appealing for more donations of festive bric-a-brac and Christmas decorations to ensure that their Secondhand Superstore has enough stock throughout December.
