Our social enterprise activity is centred around the large Emmaus Mossley Secondhand Superstore where we collect and sell a wide range of donated items. It provides meaningful work for companions but also generates the funding that maintains our community.
Emmaus Mossley is unique in that our companions work in every area of our social enterprise. Without their skills, experience, hard work and dedication our charity would not function. We have our own workshops where donated goods are repaired, refurbished, tested, upcycled or upholstered. Companions are offered the opportunity to learn a variety of skills and gain valuable work experience.
Secondhand Superstore
The Emmaus Mossley Secondhand Superstore offers a huge range of great value furniture, household items, clothes, books, music and unique finds. When you visit our Superstore you will find a variety of areas and items that appeal to different tastes, interests and budgets.
Lucie’s Café
At our Secondhand Superstore we also have Lucie’s Café that boasts the best toasted sandwiches around. It’s a great place to relax, meet with friends and enjoy drinks, cakes and other light bites.
Social impact
For every £1 spent with Emmaus there is an £11 social, economic and environmental return on investment.
This was the finding of a social return on investment study carried out on behalf of Emmaus. The research showed that we make a significant impact, with savings to the healthcare system, a reduction in crime and re-offending as well as savings to the benefits bill.
