We are delighted to announce the winning design for our 25th anniversary badge competition.
More than 50 pupils from four Mossley primary schools entered a design competition in celebration of Emmaus Mossley’s 25th anniversary. A panel of judges from Emmaus selected finalists from each school before voting on the overall winning design.
A design by 11-year-old Sydney Brown from Milton St John’s C of E Primary School was selected as the competition winner. All finalists received Emmaus gift vouchers to spend in our Secondhand Superstore and on Friday 2 September, Sydney was invited with her family for a tour of Emmaus Mossley and presented with her design on the finished pin badge.
Sydney said: “I feel really happy that my badge design was chosen. I do a lot of art at home and in school and I felt it would be good to enter the competition. I did block letters in art and thought it’d be good to see how they would look on the badge.
“The finished badge looks beautiful and I’m really happy with it. Thank you so much to the people at Emmaus for choosing my design.”
Emmaus Mossley supports 26 formerly homeless people by providing them with a home, work, companionship and individual support. Our charity opened in 1997 as the first Emmaus community in the North West. Since then, Emmaus Mossley has supported more than 500 people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion.
The badge competition was launched to help raise awareness in the build-up to our ‘25th Birthday Carnival. Pupils from Livingstone Primary School, Micklehurst All Saints CE Primary School, Milton St John’s C of E Primary School and St Georges C of E Primary School received a talk about Emmaus at their school and took part in the competition.
Hazel Hodkinson, Retail Manager at Emmaus Mossley, said: “We were delighted to see so many creative designs. It was a tough job to select finalists from each school as there were many brilliant entries, each with their own different take on the brief.
“Sydney’s bold and colourful design caught the eye of our judging panel and fit the design brief well. Congratulations to Sydney and huge thanks to all the schools and pupils who took part in the competition in support of Emmaus Mossley.”
The Emmaus Mossley ‘25th Birthday Carnival’ has been rescheduled for Saturday 12 November, 10am-4pm, at Emmaus Mossley, Longlands Mill, Queen Street, Mossley OL5 9AH. Sydney’s Emmaus 25th anniversary pin badge will be available for sale at the event and the design will also be available on free stickers.
