Whitefriargate StoreEarlier this month we opened a new shop at 28 Whitefriargate following a full refit of the unit. The existing location, also down Whitefriargate, has closed.

On Thursday 31 January reality TV star and long-time supporter of Emmaus, Linda Barker will officially open the store.

After the old store was target by thieves we decided to move to the new premises for the chance of a fresh start with additional security benefits.

Companions were active in helping us shape the vision for the new store with many contributing their skills to help with the renovation.

We’ve also taken the opportunity of a clean slate to develop some funky display cabinets from old table sets, completely revamped the changing rooms and developed unique lighting displays.

The store is now full of distinctive items of furniture, clothes, soft furnishings and much more, all of which are competitively priced.

Our director, Kelly Finnis said:

“We are extremely excited to start trading in our newly relocated shop, we have spent the Christmas period shopfitting and designing a shop that offers a unique shopping experience for our customers.

“There will be a totally different feel to the new shop and some of our companions, the formerly homeless people that are residents, have helped transform the empty unit to give a modern and vibrant shopping experience.

“The new store will include some chic display cabinets, portable screens made from reclaimed materials and the changing rooms have had a total re-fit.

“We’re hoping these changes will really help to drive sales at the store. We rely on donations and sales to the public to help deliver the important support work we offer every day to vulnerable homeless people across Hull and East Riding.

“As a long-term supporter of the charity, Linda Barker is always happy to offer her help and is extremely generous with her time. With her keen eye for interior design, she might even be able to pick up a bargain for herself.

“We’d love to see as many people down there for the official opening as possible.”
