Thursday 15th April 2021 is International Microvolunteering Day! This is a day to promote awareness of micro-volunteering and how people can spare a small amount of their time doing bite-sized actions that have a positive impact.

Be our eyes and ears

Our outreach team cover miles of ground both on foot and in our Emmaus vehicles to ensure we are engaging with anyone who could be facing homelessness or sleeping rough. However, the more eyes and ears the better! If you see anyone who could be sleeping rough in the Hull and East Riding area, please call us on our freephone line 0800 0662169 or via our social media platforms. By contacting us you could be signposting support for someone who really needs it.

Donate to us

We heavily rely on your donations that we can sell and raise funds for our charity. These can include most types of furniture, small household goods, clothing, books, bric-a-brac etc. You can either drop these off at our main site on Lockwood Street in Hull or if you give us a call on 01482 223722 ext. 1 we can arrange a free collection at your convenience.

Also, we are really grateful for any donations of blankets, sleeping bags, bottles of water, new male and female underwear, socks, tracksuit bottoms, or men’s small or medium coats that our outreach team can give out to individuals experiencing homelessness.

We are also working on a garden project this summer to transform our community garden. If you have any garden supplies that could be donated these would be really appreciated. This could be tools, seeds, soil, plants, garden ornaments etc.

If you have any unused toiletries that you could spare for our companions we would really welcome these.

Hold a fundraising event

Why not hold a one-off fundraising event with the proceeds donated to Emmaus Hull & East Riding? Here are a few ideas to get you thinking…

  • Virtual coffee morning
  • Virtual book club
  • Sponsored walk, run, swim or marathon!
  • Zoom quiz night
  • Birthday fundraiser

Have a skill to share? Organise a virtual exercise class, baking/cooking class, teach a language lesson.. the possibilities are endless!

Due to the restrictions that are still in place for Covid-19, most fundraising is happening virtually at the moment and using a JustGiving page is a great way to collect donations. Simply head to their website to make a start – https://www.justgiving.com/

Please remember to let us know if you are setting up any events in aid of Emmaus Hull & East Riding, we would love to hear about them.

Spread the word!

We like to keep everyone updated on what’s going on here at Emmaus, so why not help us spread the word? We are active across several social media platforms and regularly post about our companions, our outreach service and how we’re helping the homeless, our current volunteer opportunities, and our shops with their latest offers and items up for grabs. Why not share these amongst your family and friends on social media!

Complete our volunteer survey

Here at Emmaus we offer various volunteer opportunities for people to get involved in. To help us with this and to ensure these opportunities are as flexible and accessible as possible we would really appreciate your thoughts and feedback about volunteering. Please take just 10 minutes to complete this short survey, whether you have volunteered previously, currently volunteer or have never volunteered before – we would love to hear from you!

Volunteer Community Ambassador Role

We have just launched our new volunteer community ambassador role! This was a role inspired by International Microvolunteering Day as we appreciate that for many reasons people are unable to volunteer their time on a regular basis but may still like to support us.
