Emmaus Village Carlton trustees Lucy Dryburgh and Dean Bourke are represented our charity at the Emmaus World Assembly in Uruguay. More about this here. This is their latest report, on returning to the UK…

“We’re back after a fascinating Emmaus World Assembly in Uruguay. So many positive thoughts and ideas gained, and totally captivated by the enthusiasm and commitment of Emmaus colleagues from around the world.

On our last day we returned to Uruguay’s capital city to visit some of the Emmaus communities, learning how the operation helps those in need locally. Like so many communities around the globe, it amazes us how they – with limited resources – achieve so much through recognising and using their strengths, a flexible approach and a “never give up” attitude.

The Assembly finished on Friday evening in Montevideo with an inspiring debate, featuring amongst others, Jose ‘Pepe’ Mujica (revolutionary and former President of Uruguay).

We look forward to sharing our experience with everyone at Emmaus Village Carlton and hope our companions will benefit from these ideas and connections around the world.”
