Emmaus Preston is proud to announce the sale of preloved adults’ and kids’ bikes, certified by qualified bike mechanics.

Lewis is one of the people supported by Emmaus Preston qualified in City and Guilds bike maintenance he achieved at college two years ago.

He currently repairs donated bikes at a dedicated workshop created at Emmaus Preston’s community home, ready to go on sale at the Megastore on Brookfield Street.

In his message to shoppers, Lewis said: “You’re giving the bike a second life and another chance, and helping people who have been homeless.

“Time flies for me when I’m working on repairs. It’s been good at teaching me problem-solving.

“I’m really happy doing this. I’ve also done a PAT testing course at Emmaus Preston. Maybe I’ll go on to do an electrician’s course in the future.”

Community members are supported into training opportunities through the Companions Development Fund, available for people joining Emmaus Preston.

How training helps

Head of Support at Emmaus Preston, Karen, said: “Supporting people to gain qualifications is a fundamental part of what we do at Emmaus Preston. Attending college or university, going to lessons and achieving certifications are all important steps towards building skills, confidence and self-esteem.

“We are incredibly proud of what Lewis has achieved with his City and Guilds in bike maintenance and will support him on his journey through courses he would like to study and achieve next.”
