Emmaus supporter, Hannah, is back with more marathon and fundraising goals in aid of Emmaus Oxford.

Hannah learnt about Emmaus Oxford through her employer’s charity partnership and decided to also support our charity on a personal level. We are very grateful for Hannah’s continued support, and here is her inspiring fundraising story:

“In 2019, I started training for the Manchester Marathon which was due to take place in April 2020. I did all the training and I hit my initial fundraising target of £1,000. When I was just about to go into the three-week rest period before the race, Manchester Marathon decided to postpone due to the pandemic.

I didn’t know when the marathon would eventually take place, but I had done all the training so ran the 26.2 miles around Oxford on the day it was meant to happen. I then felt like I could say to everyone who donated that I had run a marathon (my mum made me a little medal!)

Throughout lockdown, I continued to train, and all the marathons got pushed back further and further with all the restrictions getting extended. So now what I’ve ended up with is…three marathons in Autumn this year and a 10k swim in July!

I will be doing the Thames Lock to Lock 10k swim on Sunday 25 July, Richmond Park Marathon on Sunday 12 September, the London Marathon on Sunday 3 October and Manchester Marathon a week later on Sunday 10 October. I’m planning on doing all three as a bit of an extra challenge and fundraising for Emmaus Oxford again.

It would be great to raise a bit more money for Emmaus Oxford. From speaking to the staff there, I know how difficult all the lockdowns have been and it’s really nice that I’m able to support Emmaus from a personal perspective and do something good with all this training that I’m doing.”
