Emmaus Merseyside has received a donation of workwear from JLR (Jaguar Land Rover) as part of the luxury brand’s drive towards sustainability and engaging for good.
On Friday 12 January, we took delivery of 200 items of retired JLR workwear which will be used by people supported by our charity. Emmaus Merseyside is an award-winning charity that provides a home, training, work opportunities and individual support to people who have experienced homelessness.
Sally Baker, Sustainability Partnerships Manager at JLR, said: “It has always been the goal of the workwear decommissioning programme to keep items at their highest form of use and creative positive impact in the community. Emmaus is an incredible charity, and it has been an honour to work with them as a local organisation within JLR Halewood’s local community.”
JLR recently unveiled a new workwear collection designed to reflect its modern luxury vision and commitment to diversity and inclusion. Alongside the rollout, JLR is working to ensure that old workwear is repurposed and has donated the older items of workwear from colleagues at its Halewood manufacturing site to Emmaus Merseyside.
With sustainability at the centre of its Reimagine strategy, JLR is adopting circular economy principles wherever possible to reduce waste and preserve limited resources.
Marc Bamber, Chief Operating Officer of Emmaus Merseyside, said: “We are extremely grateful to JLR for their kind support and generous donation of workwear. The items will be given to and used by the people we support, and this will save our charity money, without having the need to purchase these items ourselves.”
Sustainability and reuse are also at the heart of Emmaus Merseyside’s operations. Through our social enterprise in Sefton, household items are donated and resold to extend their life and generate an income for our charity. Last year, we installed solar panels on our 28-bedroom residential community home and replaced a van and garden equipment with more energy-efficient models.
