Brand new solar panels have been installed at Emmaus Merseyside to improve energy efficiency and save costs at our 28-bedroom community home.

Emmaus Merseyside is an award-winning charity that provides a home, training, work opportunities and individual support to people who have experienced homelessness. During April and May, our charity’s community building in Seaforth was fitted with 72 solar panels.

Mikey, an Emmaus Merseyside companion – the name given to describe residents at Emmaus communities – commented: “Everybody is aware of rising energy costs all over the world, and for a large building like ours, it’s impacted us a lot. We’ve all tried to be more savvy with saving electricity and having solar panels will mean we can save more money.”

The solar panels will help to generate electricity for the whole community building, home to 28 formerly homeless people. As well as reducing our negative impact on the environment, the new solar panels will save the us money on our energy bills.

Help towards our greener vision

Funding for the solar panels was raised by Emmaus Merseyside and matched by charity partners Evri through the Emmaus UK Environment Fund. Evri is supporting Emmaus communities and groups across the UK, helping to reduce their environmental impact and support energy-saving initiatives.

Marc Bamber, Chief Operating Officer of Emmaus Merseyside, said: “We are one step closer to our greener vision for Emmaus Merseyside. The installation of this 72-panel solar system will help reduce our carbon footprint, as well as saving the charity money on energy bills, at a time when energy uncertainty has never been higher.”

“We would like to give huge thanks to our local charity supporters, the Emmaus UK Environment Fund and our friends at Evri for helping to fund these improvements to our building. I would also like to give big thanks to contactors Northern Solar LTD as the guys on site have been amazing.”

All proceeds raised at the Emmaus Merseyside Charity Superstore are used to sustain the support offered to people at the charity’s community home. The building includes a community kitchen, communal dining room, gym, games and cinema room, and large on-site garden.
