Emmaus Merseyside has received a day of support from the leadership team at John Lewis & Partners Liverpool.

On Tuesday 1 November, more than 20 staff members from John Lewis & Partners volunteered to help at our Emmaus Merseyside Charity Superstore.

The team of volunteers worked with our companions, volunteers and staff to sort donations, create retail displays and showcase the great quality of items on offer. Whilst working together, the John Lewis & Partners volunteers had a chance to chat and learn more about the work of Emmaus and the people supported by the charity.

Kylie Gilson, Partner & Head of Branch at John Lewis & Partners Liverpool, said: “It was such a pleasure to join the team of companions at Emmaus. We were blown away by the work they do to support the people experiencing homelessness in Liverpool and we felt privileged to be able to work alongside them for the day.

“The work Emmaus does very much supports our purpose here at the John Lewis Partnership. Working in partnership for a happier world is where we aim to work together to create a successful business and a fairer and sustainable future for our communities.”

Learning together

Emmaus Merseyside companions work alongside local volunteers to run all aspects of our social enterprise. All proceeds raised at the Charity Superstore are used to sustain the support offered to companions at Emmaus Merseyside’s community home.

Marc Bamber, Chief Operating Officer at Emmaus Merseyside, said: “We are extremely grateful to the John Lewis & Partners volunteers for their time, expertise and energy.

“The intensive volunteer day at our Charity Superstore had a really positive impact in many different ways. The day was a chance for the JLP staff to learn more about Emmaus and the people we support, whilst also being a great learning opportunity for our team.”
