Meal times are really important parts of the day for our community, when our companions, volunteers and staff come together to fuel up. With up to 30 people to feed, our kitchen is a very busy place, and we are looking for a community cook to work alongside our companions in preparing and serving meals.
Key responsibilities include:
- Follow food safety procedures in delivery, storage, preparation, cooking, holding and service
- Accept food deliveries and store food in the appropriate places
- Prepare daily and weekly lunch and dinner menus
- Prepare a range of food items including meat, fish, dairy, vegetables, pasta and rice ready for cooking
- Follow recipes accurately to ensure portion control and food cost control
- Apply FIFO (first in, first out) and reduce food waste
- Assist companions to clean and shut down the kitchen according to the kitchen procedures
- Work effectively in a catering team
Skills required:
- Experience of meal preparation and planning
- Experience working in a team
- Knowledge of health and safety
- Patience and empathy for our companions and their circumstances
- Good customer service and people skills
- A commitment to Emmaus’s ethos and values
- A positive can-do attitude
Time commitment:
We are looking for volunteers who can commit to at least one day a week, volunteering from 10am – 4pm. If you’ve got more time to spare, we’d love to have you for more!
