HM Lord-Lieutenant of Northamptonshire, James Saunders Watson, visited our Rucksack Stomp in Wellingborough last Thursday night (July 20), to see the support we provide to vulnerable people facing homelessness.

James was very keen to learn about the issues of Homelessness in Wellingborough and the support Emmaus provides in Northamptonshire through their all-year weekly Stomps in Northampton [Wednesdays] and Wellingborough [Thursdays]. James made every effort to speak with and learn from the Emmaus Companions who organise and implement these events.

Following the example of His Majesty The King, the HM Lord-Lieutenant seeks to promote a spirit of co-operation through encouraging voluntary services, benevolent organisations and charities such as Emmaus, and we are extremely grateful for his support.

The ‘Rucksack Stomp’ is the name given to a group of companions, staff and volunteers, headed by companion Christian, who volunteer in Bedford, Northampton and Wellingborough town centres every week, offering a lifeline to vulnerable people.

It’s not the first time our ‘Rucksack Stomp’ solidarity initiative has come under the spotlight this year; our corporate partner Cadent, the UK’s largest gas distribution network, recently interviewed companion Christian about the initiative, and the stomp team were joined in Bedford by HM Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, Susan Lousada.
