We’re appealing for bear makers to support our new Emmaus South Manchester charity project.
Help to create a sloth of handmade bears to brighten the spirits of people feeling isolated by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
The Companion Bear project has launched this month by our team of charity volunteers. We’re appealing to kind-hearted people to make a Companion Bear and send it with a message of kindness to someone they know.
Caroline Booth, the volunteer at Emmaus South Manchester behind the project, said: “I wanted to create a project that makes use of waste textiles and allows people to reach out to a family member, friend or neighbour in a positive way.
“Our Companion Bear kits will allow people with little to no knowledge of crafts or sewing to create a handmade bear that they can send with a personal message to someone they know. Hopefully the bears will bring a smile to people’s faces and give a little boost as we move into the brighter days of summer.”

Caroline and fellow volunteers, including students from The University of Manchester, have prepared Companion Bear kits that include all of the materials needed and instructions on how to create a bear. The bear kits are being sold online with all of the proceeds raised going to support our charity’s aim of opening a new community to support homeless people.
Emmaus communities support people who have experienced homelessness by giving them a home, work experience, individual support and an opportunity for a fresh start in life. Our team is currently working to build the support and funds needed to establish a new Emmaus community in South Manchester.
