The Emmaus South Manchester Emporium is our charity store offering an eclectic selection of secondhand furniture, homewares, collectables, vintage clothing, craft and fabrics as well as upcycled furniture and textiles.

Our Emporium has its own on-site workshops where furniture is restored and a Community Café serving drinks, cakes and light refreshments. Proceeds from items sold at the Emporium go towards launching a new Emmaus residential community to support people who are homeless.

Our Emporium and on-site workshop is central to what we do as it:

  • Provides practical experience and training to local volunteers and beneficiaries
  • Generates an income to help us create a new Emmaus community
  • Extends the life of useful items, diverting waste from landfill.

When you visit our Emporium you will find a large store filled with interesting items in every nook and cranny. The space has been lovingly adapted whilst retaining many of the building’s original mid-century features.

You will find a mix of good quality furniture including sofas, tables, chairs, wardrobes, bookcases, beds, cabinets and vintage furniture. Whatever budget you may have, we offer a range of second-hand, refurbished and upcycled items, to suit your style and taste. In amongst furniture, you’ll find vintage fashion, homewares and collectables, along with fabric and craft supplies in our haberdashery area.

Our Emporium is a place to source interesting items, but we also want it to become a community hub offering experiences beyond your traditional charity shop. Our longer-term plan is to offer workshops and training so that people have the skills to reuse items and make their own bespoke products.

Emporium workshop

Within our on-site workshop, the Emmaus South Manchester team is building on the work of former RENU project beneficiaries and expanding the range of items on offer. We still sell good quality wooden furniture and upcycled furniture but our range also includes other interesting upcycled items such as clocks and rugs.

RENU was first established by Manchester charity Barnabus to give people who experience homelessness the chance to upcycle furniture that would otherwise end up as waste. The RENU baton was passed to Emmaus South Manchester in 2020 to help generate the funds needed to create a new Emmaus community in the area.
