Solidarity is a key aspect of the Emmaus ethos. Solidarity is standing with others who may be vulnerable or experiencing difficulties by supporting them in their time of need. We encourage everyone at Emmaus SLC to carry out acts of solidarity to make our communities better places to live in. This could involve fundraising, volunteering, and supporting those currently rough-sleeping.
We have a solidarity committee that meets once a month to discuss where best to direct our organised acts of solidarity. Every year, Emmaus SLC hosts two separate solidarity events to raise funds for worthy beneficiaries chosen by our solidarity committee.
This year we will be hosting our Sports Month 4 Solidarity! Read more about it here.
UPDATE:
Sports Month 4 Solidarity officially ended on 31st October 2024. We successfully raised over £4000!

Previous beneficiaries include:
Danny Daly - Chair of Emmaus SLC Solidarity Committee“As someone who has been involved with Emmaus SLC for 17 years, both as trustee and staff member, I have always loved the fact that solidarity is such a key ethos for us in the Emmaus movement. Charity can often be too vertical, whereas solidarity is horizontal. It acknowledges that everyone has wisdom and resources to help solve problems.”
Mahesh - Companion and Solidarity Committee member“This Is Emmaus:*Enhancing Kindness Of Humanity* Succour On Vulnerability* Mitigating Stigma Of HomelessnessIn Solidarity”
Rachel Woolf - Founder & Director of Street Storage and previous Beneficiary‘Having the support and encouragement of colleagues, organisations, people working in the sector and people being supported by the sector in solidarity is invaluable. It builds morale, relationships and makes people feel less isolated when times get hard, but perhaps more importantly it allows people and organisations to share resources and highlight services, signpost to other support available and generally build a better world for the people we support – a world that that is together and united, not divided. We are so grateful to work alongside Emmaus!’
