Emmaus SLC was recently invited by Hemingway Designs to participate in a suitcase sale which was to be held at the ‘In a Field By a Bridge community festival on Sunday 23rd July. We immediately recognised this as not only a fantastic opportunity to show off our stock to new audiences but also as a way of delivering the Emmaus message to more people.

A suitcase Sale is similar to a car boot sale. The difference is that we can only sell items which fit into a standard sized suitcase. We were also informed that the fair has a vintage feel to it, so our Partnership Manager Ross asked our Window Dresser Barbara, who has a great eye for picking out unique vintage wares, to curate a selection to sell from our suitcase.

On a bright Sunday morning Ross and Barbara arrived at Potters Fields Park (the site of the festival) and discovered they were to pitch up opposite The Tower of London and next to Tower Bridge; this brilliant spot meant we had an almost endless amount of people passing by and showing interest in our selection.

The event was overall very successful. Sales were plentiful throughout the day and we spoke to a lot of people about the issues of homelessness in London and the work that Emmaus undertakes to tackle them.

We would like to say a huge thank you to @inthefield and @hemingwaydesigns for letting us be a part of this event and we look forward to taking part in many more in the future.
