One of the most important parts of the Emmaus ethos is solidarity. This means working to help someone less fortunate than yourself. Acts of solidarity can vary from raising money for a charity to undertaking work to help someone in the wider local community.

On Monday 31st October Staff, Companions and friends of Emmaus SLC had a very enjoyable Curry Night to raise funds for our 2022 solidarity work

We would like to thank the Yak & Yeti in Crystal Palace who provided an excellent Nepalese and Indian buffet at cost for the evening, and in addition they decided to forego their normal service charge as their contribution to the fundraising event.

Similar to our previous charity fundraiser (a 24-hour Spinathon which raised over £2500 in September) all of the net proceeds will be going towards supporting Companions and refugees being supported by Emmaus communities in Poland, Romania and Ukraine.

Danny Daly, the Chair of the Emmaus SLC Solidarity Committee and Director of Finance and Community, said that “the combination of the funds raised by our Spinathon and this Curry Night will be in excess of £3,000. We are very proud of reaching this milestone”.

“At a time where a number of people are facing difficult financial circumstances domestically, it is important that we still do not lose sight of our solidarity ethos in regard to the Emmaus communities affected by the war in Ukraine. On behalf of our Solidarity Committee, I would like to thank everyone who has been involved and/or donated to both of these events.”

We are looking forward to the fundraising events that we will be holding next year. If you wish to be informed of our next fundraising events as and when they happen, please follow us on our social media channels.
