A huge well done to people supported by Emmaus Preston for completing their first training course of the year!

Companions got together with people helped by Emmaus Burnley for the certified Lancashire Adult Learning Level 3 First Aid course. Training took place at Emmaus Preston’s community home on Ribbleton Lane.

The course covered a wide range of first aid, including what to do if someone is bleeding or choking, dressing wounds, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of a defibrillator.

Head of Support for Emmaus Preston and Emmaus Burnley, Karen, said: “It is good to have qualified first aiders in the charity shops and it’s a great qualification to have on CVs. People supported here were really interested in going on the course and keen on doing the courses we have planned this year.”

Emmaus Preston provides a home, personalised support, meaningful work and training for people with experience of homelessness. Charity beneficiaries at Emmaus are supported to gain new skills as part of individual tailored programmes. These are designed with support workers to develop people’s progress towards living independent and fulfilled lives.

The charity’s skills development and training for 2023 is now underway with a range of courses planned in partnership with Lancashire Adult Learning. These include Debt Management and Budgeting, Introduction To Food Safety, Emotional Resilience and Stress, Conflict Resolution and a new course about relationships.
