We are celebrating Volunteers’ Week by thanking individuals as well as local and UK-wide businesses for volunteering.

Emmaus Burnley provides a home, personal support, training and the focus of work each day for up to 24 people with experience of homelessness who live in charity accommodation on Old Hall Street.

This year, staff from celebrity chef suppliers, Wellocks and William Jackson Food Group, volunteered in our kitchen, alongside people supported by Emmaus Burnley, to batch cook meals for the community.

The charity corporate partnership resulted in delicious curries and casseroles for people assisting in the sale secondhand homeware and new white goods at Emmaus Department Store. All proceeds from sales help sustain our Emmaus community.

Director of Emmaus Burnley, Stephen Buchanan, said: “We are grateful to staff from Wellocks and WJFG for taking the time out of their working weeks to help people learn more about healthy eating at Emmaus Burnley.

“We welcome the support of corporate partners, the trustees helping lead our charity and the people volunteering at Emmaus Department Store for donating their time. This Volunteers’ Week, we thank you!

Anyone thinking of volunteering can browse the current volunteer opportunities on our website. Emmaus Burnley is also open to new ideas from volunteers and organisations who would like to contribute.

Support, training and expenses, where appropriate, are available for people who can commit to a minimum of between three to six hours of volunteer time.
