A local food supplier has made a food bank donation of hundreds of jars of Patak’s curry sauces and Blue Dragon noodles.

AB World Foods of Kiribati Way in Leigh made the food bank donation to Emmaus Bolton’s social supermarket Lucie’s Pantry, which supports up to 400 people.

As well as a range of brand-name curry sauces and noodles, the company also gave pappadums, naan bread and stir-fry sachets to the charity off Fletcher Street in Bolton.

Catherine Nicholls of AB World Foods said, “We were delighted to support this work at such a critical time for our local communities.”

Emmaus Bolton provides a home from homelessness for up to 22 people, helping rebuild confidence and self-esteem by providing personalised support and meaningful work through working across a range of charity shops and services.

We need your food bank donation

Last year the Emmaus charity appealed for volunteers to open the Pantry for additional days in the week, following a surge in referrals from outside agencies.

Anyone can join the Pantry by completing a short referral form, which now serves free food and toiletries on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and all day Wednesday. Ask in store for details.

Director of Emmaus Bolton, Tony Stephenson, said: “Lucie’s Pantry is in desperate need of donations, so we were delighted that AB World Foods was able to step in on this occasion and come to the rescue.

“Glass jar sauces and other non-perishables are just what we need. The sauces and noodles were in such high demand, we spread out the donations to make sure everyone got their fair share.”

Make a donation, make a difference

At the start of Covid in 2020, Emmaus Bolton waived the nominal fee for goods at Lucie’s Pantry to support families through the pandemic and has extended this during the cost of living crisis.

The charity is completely reliant on drop-off food bank donations made on site from local organisations and members of the public in order to stock the shelves.

Tony added: “If you or your organisation or someone you know can spare excess pallets of food or put a few extra tins or cans, toothpaste, deodorant, toilet roll or soap in your shopping basket, to donate, please drop these off at Emmaus Bolton. Anything you can spare is of vital support to people in need.”
