Emmaus Preston

Emmaus Preston looking to reopen in February 2010

Emmaus Preston has established, with the help of its trustees, donors, staff and supporters, an excellent Community home at The Birches, Preston, ready for occupation and two houses that together can provide accommodation for some 30 vulnerable people.

Turning this fine building, The Birches, into an Emmaus Community requires a team of experienced and committed trustees, staff and volunteers, trained in Emmaus policies and practices, committed to the Emmaus ethos and with the time and resources to make it happen. It also needs the creation of a recycling business both to support the Community and, in due course, provide solidarity to those in greatest need. The Trustee Board is therefore acting to build such a team and take the necessary action that will enable the Community to reopen in February 2010.

The Board has secured the secondment from the Emmaus Federation, for a transitional period, of three very experienced Trustees and from January 2010, Paul Bain, who built the first UK, highly successful Emmaus Community at Cambridge, will assume oversight in his role as Emmaus Relief Community Leader.
