We’re appealing for new trustees to help drive our charity forward and champion our mission to support homeless and disadvantaged people in London.

We provide accommodation, training, work opportunities and support to people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion. More than two thirds of people supported by Emmaus Greenwich move on into jobs, their own housing or return to families. In addition to our accommodation, we also run an outreach service in Woolwich and Westminster called Street Souls which provides direct support to people who are street homeless or struggling with poverty.

Our Plumstead-based charity currently has eight people who give their time and expertise as trustees. We would love to hear from people with experience in retail, property management, fundraising and GDPR.

Gaenor Stevenson, pictured here with Emmaus UK President Sir Terry Waite and Chief Executive Charlotte Talbott, has been Chair of Trustees at Emmaus Greenwich since 2013 and said:

“I have been a trustee at Emmaus Greenwich for many years and I’m proud of how we have grown from a single property with one residential site and retail outlet to the current three shops and four houses for accommodation. Being a trustee is a great way to be involved in the local community and I’ve met some truly interesting and dedicated people along the way.

“We have a dedicated staff team and our role as trustees is to set the strategic direction and ensure that governance is robust so that the staff can focus on supporting and growing the social enterprise. The trustees currently have some exciting plans to develop our services and increase our social impact. We’re looking forward to hearing from anyone interested in getting involved.”

Trustees at Emmaus Greenwich give their time voluntarily and work together to ensure our charity has a clear strategy, and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Trustees meet five times a year and can get involved with projects and events at our charity if their time permits.

To fund our work, we collect and sell donated items in three shops in Plumstead, Lewisham and Poplar, and our online shop. Residents supported by our charity help to run our shops, gaining valuable work experience, confidence and skills. All money generated from our social enterprise is re-invested to support disadvantaged people in London.
