We are different to other homelessness services. Our charity doesn’t just offer a bed for the night; we provide a home and meaningful work.

We can accommodate up to 26 previously homeless adults – male and female, known within Emmaus as companions. We supply accommodation, all meals, basic clothing and toiletries, funded training and support within a secure environment. Companions receive a weekly volunteering allowance of £46 with an additional £10 being put into a ‘resettlement fund’ for leaving the community. Each companion is linked with a 1:1 worker and together they agree a tailored support plan to address specific issues, allow for personal development and plan for the companion’s future.

In return for what we offer, our companions work within our community to the best of their abilities. This can be in the community home, in our shops, or driving to collect/deliver furniture.

Companions are required to sign off all benefits with the exception of housing benefit, which goes to Emmaus Gloucestershire.

Our companions live in our accommodation in Gloucester on Barnwood Road. Our building offers single occupancy bedrooms and shared living spaces.

Homeless or sleeping rough?

If you are homeless or sleeping rough and are interested in joining our community, you are very welcome to get in touch. Each person is considered on an individual basis.

Referrals

We also take referrals from homelessness agencies, probation services, healthcare professionals – anyone who cares enough to want to help someone improve their life. We are always happy to send out referral packs, show you around or talk on the phone.

Our success depends on creating and maintaining a stable community; before anyone is accepted, detailed assessments of need and risk are undertaken. We do often accept those with complex problems, provided the community as a whole is able to support them.
