Thanks to the support of generous donors, including the B&Q community fund, and Sylvia King, a new gym for companions at Emmaus Dover is now open.

The gym is housed in a renovated cabin which used to serve as a rag store for the community. Companions have worked to insulate and upgrade the shed, and new windows, doors and carpets have been fitted. Last week the new gym equipment was finally moved in, and includes free weights, a spinning bike, multi-weight machines and more.

One of our companions Steven has recently completed his Personal Training diploma at Level 2, and is now working towards a qualification in Sports Massage. He looks forward to training with those companions on the site who are interested. He told us:

“I’ve always had an interest in fitness, and I’m looking forward to using my new qualifications and expertise to help companions set their own fitness goals. I think the addition of the gym to our community will have a great positive impact on our lives and on the community in general, and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”

Physical health is important to overall well-being, and we hope that having the new gym on site will provide a welcome space for companions to enjoy.
