CLOSING DATE: 31 December 2025 LOCATION: Remote, with two in-person meetings per year TYPE: Trustee

Emmaus UK is looking to recruit trustees with housing and property expertise to help us with the next step in our journey as a charity.

It’s an exciting time at Emmaus as we seek to unlock new ways to achieve our strategic objective to help more people out of homelessness, including early exploration into becoming a Registered Provider of Social Housing on behalf of Emmaus charities across the UK.

To ensure that we are best positioned to do this, we are looking for people with legal and governance expertise in the social housing and property sectors to provide our team with guidance and advice.

What we’re looking for

Housing Association or other housing regulatory expertise to provide strategic input as we explore becoming a Registered Provider.

Legal expertise in a relevant field (governance, housing, property, regulation etc.) to advise on legal matters.

Property acquisition and development expertise to support us with providing high quality services and managing sustainable growth.

Being a trustee

Trustees bring specialist skills, experience, knowledge or expertise in specific areas and it is their duty to use these to support the Board of Trustees and our staff team to reach sound decisions.

This may involve leading discussions on issues where they have specific expertise, highlighting key issues and providing insight, advice and guidance on new initiatives.

In addition, trustees ensure our team pursues charitable purposes, adheres to our principles and values, and works strategically towards the benefit of the people we support. They also ensure we comply with our governing documents, financial responsibilities, and relevant legislation and regulations.

Our current Board of Trustees

Jill Garner, Chair of Trustees at Emmaus UK

Our Board of Trustees is made up of representatives from across the Emmaus federation in the UK, as well as independents who bring key skills and experience. All of them give their time and expertise to help Emmaus UK to support the federation of charities in the UK to be the best they can be.

Katrina Mattock, Vice Chair of Trustees at Emmaus UK

It is currently led by Chair Jill Garner, an experienced leader of organisations tackling disadvantage and poverty, and vice chair Katrina Mattock, who recently retired after 13 years as Community Leader at Emmaus Leeds.

Joining the Board at such a significant moment will enable you to play a key role in the future of Emmaus. You will be an integral part of developing the movement and central to making strategic decisions within Emmaus UK as the national body.
