Queen's Award & Silverbirches opening event

Volunteers

On Friday 21 July, join us in celebrating two very special events...

We are pleased to invite our customers and supporters to a very special day. On July 21st, Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, Mrs Helen Nellis, will present Emmaus Village Carlton with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. The Mayor of Bedford, Mr Dave Hodgson, will then officially open ‘Silverbirches’: our new accommodation which includes 7 new rooms and 2 flats.

The official proceedings begin at 10.30am and members of the public are invited to join in the celebration between 10am and 1pm; the Bistro and Homestore will be open as usual throughout the day.

We're extremely proud to be accepting the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, as it is the highest award given to voluntary groups across the UK for their outstanding work in the local community and has equivalent status to an MBE.

Opening Silverbirches means a lot to us; it will enable the charity to provide a home for more homeless people in Bedfordshire, increasing our capacity to 42 companions (formerly homeless service users). This £120,000 project has seen the conversion of underused space in an existing building to create seven self-contained rooms for companions, two move-on flats for those companions close to fully independent living, as well as an overnight bedsit for visitors. The building work was funded through kind support from other charities and local supporters.
