Today we’re taking time to thank all our wonderful volunteers – as part of this year’s national Volunteers’ Week, which runs 1-7 June.

Volunteers are such a key part of the team which helps to keep our Home Store and Bistro going. While these social enterprises remain temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 situation, we want to take this opportunity to recognise the vital role that volunteers have always played – and will continue to play in future.

We’d like to send our warmest wishes to all our lovely volunteers – we miss you all and hope you’re staying safe and well in these challenging times.

Before lockdown, more than 35 volunteers regularly gave up their time to help out in many different roles including sorting and pricing donated items for sale, assisting with a van service collecting and delivering furniture, helping with office administration and joining a team growing plants and vegetables in our on-site garden.

Emmaus staff member Jackie Bartholomew has experienced what it is like, volunteering for Emmaus Village Carlton: “I started out here as a volunteer myself. When I first started, everyone bent over backwards to make sure I was feeling fine. Emmaus Village Carlton often does feel like one big family: everyone knows everyone else and there’s a good community atmosphere.”
